Jake Paul is gagging to fight on March 28, just over a month after his brother, Logan, takes on Floyd Mayweather.

Paul has been constantly calling out UFC star Conor McGregor and despite the fact the YouTube star made a $ 50 million offer to McGregor with ‘proof of funds’, the Irishman appears unmoved.

McGregor is busy preparing to fight Dustin Poirier in January at UFC 257 and has suggested he may return to boxing next year, but it would be to face Manny Pacquiao if he did.

However, former UFC star Ben Askren has now stepped up and suggested he will answer Paul’s call following a social media post from Chael Sonnen.

Sonnen claims the 23-year-old, who is looking to make it 3-0 as a professional fighter following wins against another YouTuber and a former basketball player, wants Askren and then Dillon Danis.

“Yes, Mr. Jake Paul, I do accept,” Askren said. “I know you called me out after your last fight with that bum Nate Robinson and listen, it’s a pretty simple choice. I’m going to make a whole bunch of money to beat up a guy who is pretending to be an athlete, because at the end of the day that’s what you’re doing.

“And I know you may think I don’t have too many stand-up skills, but also, I don’t really need to! I’m a world class athlete.

“I’ve won NCAA titles, I’ve been to the Olympics, I’ve won belts in multiple MMA promotions and quite frankly I am impressed that you’ve deluded yourself into thinking you’re actually a fighter.

“That you’re really tough. That you can really box. It’s quite impressive that beating up another YouTuber and beating up a boxer that looked like he had never been in the ring before makes you somehow good at boxing – because it doesn’t.

“So yes, Jake, I accept. I will see you March 28 in Los Angeles and I will humble you like millions of people want to see happen.”

MMA journalist Ariel Helwani has suggested a potential fight is far from over the line.

“Askren making the push to fight Jake Paul. Fight is nowhere near done though, I’m told, but there is chatter.

“Of course, Danis is out there and [Michael] Bisping out there, too. Paul wants to fight again in March and the plan seems to be to box an MMA fighter, at this time,” Helwani tweeted.

Why Paul is targeting boxing an MMA fighter specifically is curious but if it is indeed Askren, it will be interesting to watch given that Askren was famed for his grappling skills and certainly not his striking.

He retired from competing in 2019 on the back of two losses to Jorge Masvidal and Demian Meia respectively.
