Here’s Donald Trump giving his first press conference after the midterm elections in which his Republican Party managed to hold on to the Senate but lost control of Congress for the first time in 8 years.
Trump said it was a triumph – he would, wouldn’t he – but this performance at the White House today suggests otherwise. It lasts not much more than a minute and it really is worth watching in full.

Apart from anything Trump said – and he said a lot – this bit caught people’s attention.

And here are just a few of the things people are saying about it.
Hold up the mirror. Highlight the lies. His many tools & weapons are powerless in the face of repeated truth. It's why despots *always* despise free media. God knows what happens next but a united press corps is a powerful force for good. https://t.co/zCUKuW1akZ

If it was in a TV drama it would be slammed for being unrealistic 😳 https://t.co/VYXf4TNNIF

SO much to see. The defensive hectoring. The aide trying to get the microphone back. The insults to Jim Acosta. Then the final, petty shot at the next questioner. A display in statesmanship. https://t.co/28YNZ4O4V8

Hoboy. What a fucking loser. I guess we're going to see a lot more of this. https://t.co/qtgYpj0Kb9

This press conference is one of the most impressive performances of aggrieved masculine entitlement I've ever seen, and I once asked a Princeton lacrosse player to stop pissing in my trashcan.

my favorite way to listen to the president is slowed down to 1/2 speed because it reveals how often times his logic is indistinguishable from that of a drunk person: pic.twitter.com/QiUb4CQdU9
