The Dolphins have named a strong squad of fourteen for their 4-Day Franchise Series opener against the Lions starting at Kingsmead Stadium on Monday.
Following what has been an extended off and pre-season the players from around the country will be itching to get back onto the field of play next week and the Dolphins will have a tough test against the defending champions.
Coach of the Dolphins Imraan Khan is looking forward to his team getting their season underway following a long period of uncertainty.
“There is a lot of excitement in the camp and the boys have trained well going into this one,” Khan said. “We’ve had two practice games over the last three weeks which was great prep for us.
“We’ve covered all the bases that we need to cover and now it’s just about converting that into a competitive space.”
The Dolphins have got basically a full squad to pick from and that would have caused a few headaches for the selectors when finalising the fourteen-man squad.
“There are a few niggles but that is to be expected given the rise in workload of late specifically from a bowling perspective but nothing major so we have a full squad to pick from.
“It’s not going to be an easy one picking that final eleven because we have some good players in the group.
“We will make our call on the final eleven as late as possible given that the wicket will be under cover for most of the weekend and we’ll make our decision on Monday morning,” Khan added.
The Dolphins have selected all three of their outside acquisitions with Ruan de Swardt, Otneil Baartman and Keegan Petersen all in line for debuts. Lifa Ntanzi also makes the squad and could make his red ball debut for the Dolphins next week.
Head of Department of International and Governance Relations at the eThekwini Municipality Eric Apelgren is excited that the Dolphins are back in action.
“Congratulations to theDolphins and KZN cricket for an amazing season last year.
“We salute and appreciate the courage and positive spirit that KZN Cricket and the Dolphins have shown in their approach and preparation for the new season.
“The city is looking forward to a successful and exciting cricket season,” Apelgren said.
