Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are two of golf’s greatest but they’ve had to go back to school for their upcoming skins showdown.

Masters winner Woods and FedExCup champion McIlroy will face off against Jason Day and Hideki Matsuyama in Japan later this month for a high-stakes exhibition event.

There will be a hefty pot of cash up for grabs and a host of in-match challenges and surprises. Think The Match: Tiger vs. Phil but ramped up to a whole new level.

To gear up for their superstar clash, the players have headed back to the classroom.

As ‘head teacher’ Matsuyama gives his rivals a crash-course in Japanese, the competitive juices begin flowing among the four star names.

Day kicks it off by asking for a translation of ‘I just outdrove you by 20 yards’.

Matsuyama then trolls McIlroy by insisting he’ll need to know what ‘you might want to hit a provisional’ means in the Far East.

Up next, older statesman Woods gets ribbed about his age before bamboozling Rory by asking in perfect Japanese ‘you’re going to lose, right?’ A hapless McIlroy responds ‘yeah, sure!’

While their Japanese certainly needs some work, let’s hope Woods and co can let their golf do the talking.

The Challenge: Japan Skins will take place at the Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club on October 21.
