Yankees, Mets scout ‘healthy’ Corey Kluber as they seek rotation help

The Yankees’ and Mets’ search for pitching includes scouting Corey Kluber, who had a showcase on Wednesday as he looks to rebound from two-injury-riddled seasons.

The Yankees’ interest is not surprising, considering their need for starting pitching, as well as the fact the workout was held at a facility in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., that is run by their director of health and performance, Eric Cressey.

From the Mets’ perspective, Kluber could make sense as a low-risk, potential high-upside option to complete a rotation that includes his former Cleveland teammate Carlos Carrasco.

In a 30-pitch showcase, attended by roughly 25 teams, the 34-year-old Kluber threw 89-91 mph and looked healthy, sources told The Post’s Joel Sherman.

Kluber has made just eight starts over the past two seasons. In 2019, he was done in by a fractured right arm after being hit by a line drive while with the Indians.

Last season, following a trade to the Rangers, Kluber pitched just one inning before shoulder tightness ended his year. Still, Kluber was among the top pitchers in the game from 2014-18.

The Yankees have Gerrit Cole at the top of their rotation, followed by Jordan Montgomery.

Beyond that, Luis Severino is out until at least the middle of the season as he comes back from Tommy John surgery. Domingo German is eligible to return from a domestic violence suspension. Deivi Garcia, Clarke Schmidt and Michael King are options to fill out the rotation, with Masahiro Tanaka, James Paxton and J.A. Happ all free agents.

Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake worked at Cressey Sports before joining the Indians as director of pitching performance in 2016, so he was with Kluber for his final four seasons in Cleveland.
